Providing Full-Service Site Work

SERVICES WE OFFER

JW & Sons Excavating offers a complete solution for any required site work needs. See our full list of services below:

ON-SITE PROCESSING

SITE WORK

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Planning

Commercial & residential site work

Preparing for the site is an essential part of the construction process. Our attention to detail ensures the rest of the project will go smooth with accurate layout and measurement.

Grading and Site Development

Whether the site requires small preparation or full land clearing and leveling, we have the equipment and capacity to do the job right, the first time.

Foundation excavation

Raising the grade for foundations is an integral part of the site-prep process. We work with precision to attain an accurate layout for foundation, insuring the rest of the project is on point.

Septic Installation

A septic system contains an underground septic tank made of plastic, concrete, fiberglass, or other material to treat and dispose of sewage. This system is designed to provide an individualized wastewater treatment option for commercial and residential areas.

All Types of Drainage Work

A major element of civil engineering and construction projects, drainage work is necessary to avoid flooding and other damage. Usually, discharge is relocated via drains to the sewer system, and from sewers to a suitable outfall or treatment plant.

Underground Utlities

Underground utilities are any public service infrastructures installed below the surface. Underground utilities include cables, phone lines and data cables, water and sewer pipelines, and gas and oil pipelines.

Roadways and Driveways / Parking Lots

Why do we drive on the parkway and park on the driveway? That’s just one of life’s little
mysteries, but there’s no mystery involved in creating a beautiful and practical driveway or or
parking lot—just some thoughtful planning and proper preparation. Your driveway or parking
makes a big first impression, whether you realize it or not. Its size, shape, and surface material
are certainly important considerations.

Rock Hammering

We use rock breakers and crushers to reduce the size of any large rocks to a more manageable size on site.

Erosion control

Ensuring the project remains clean and stable, we provide proper erosion
control per county requirements.

Trucking services

Whether you need a small load of aggregate or large quantities, we are here for you.
You call we haul.

On-site screening or crushing

Our crushing and screening equipment enables us to reduce and separate large materials into organized batches.

WE ARE A COMPREHENSIVE SITE WORK FIRM

JW & Sons Excavating is a full-service site work firm. We have the equipment and capacity to handle any size job. We have over 20 years of experience preparing sites for construction.  From de-watering and utility relocation to foundation excavation and site prep, we offer an attention to detail that is unmatched by the competition.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We often get questions about the excavation process, so we put together a list of a few of them.

Why is sitework important?

One of the essential stages of the construction process and the very first step is excavation. Excavation isn’t always easy, and it’s not a particularly inexpensive step in the process, but it’s vitally important.

Excavation is vital for laying the foundation upon which the structure will be built. This is why sitework is important, perhaps the most important step in the construction process. Sitework sets the stage for everything that is to come, protects the site, and helps minimize or eliminate a range of potential future problems.

What is excavation?

Excavation is the process of moving things like earth, rock, or other materials with tools, equipment, or explosives. It includes earthwork, trenching, wall shafts, tunneling, and underground. Excavation has several critical purposes, including exploration, environmental restoration, mining, and construction.
Construction is one of the most common applications for excavation. In construction, excavation is used to create building foundations, reservoirs, and roads. Several different processes are used in excavation, including trenching, digging, dredging, and site development.
These processes will require unique techniques, tools, and machinery to get the job done right. The process that you use will depend upon your project
and what you need to build.

How does the excavation process work?

Before excavation can begin, your job site must be carefully examined to ensure that the surrounding natural habitat has persevered throughout excavation. Next, you will make plans for the site’s size and depth, and
the excavation contractors make drawings to mark the excavation site’s boundaries. Once these two critical steps are complete, the excavation
work can begin. The excavation process includes:
• setting corner benchmarks
• clean site entrance
• land clearing
• grading
• surveying ground and top levels
• excavation to the approved depth
• dressing the loose soil
• marking up the cut off level
• the construction of dewatering wells and interconnecting trenches
• marking the boundaries of the building
• the construction of protection drains
• erosion control and sediment control
• installation of septic tank and filtration systems
• driveway and walkway preparation
• underground utilities

What happens when excavation begins?

Once there are drawings and an approved plan, excavation begins.
The excavator will use your approved plan and drawings to know where to dig. How deep they dig will depend on several factors, like the type of foundation and if there will be a crawl space or a basement. Or if you need the grade raised, how much material it will take to meet the planned requirements. The type of foundation you choose will determine whether the foundation needs to be excavated or raised.

Slab
A slab is the most basic foundation type, as the name suggests. When building with a slab foundation, you will have a wide range of options and variables available to you. You have to be sure that your slab foundation will stand up to the local environment, like meeting frost mitigation requirements. Requirements like this could drive the cost up to the point where it makes more sense for you to build on a basement or crawlspace.

How long does it take?

Keep in mind that several factors will influence how long it will take to excavate your job site, and times can vary considerably.
However, excavation for a foundation can range from 3 to 4 days on up to 3 weeks depending on the size of you project.

How do I choose an excavation team?

Construction excavation requires experience, skill, and attention to detail when dealing with large structures because it creates the foundation for the entire project. Heavy industrial contractors like JW & Sons Excavation,
LLC use advanced techniques, tools, and heavy machinery to ensure that the job is done right. When you hire a heavy industrial contractor to complete
large excavation projects, you are setting your project up to yield the best results.
If you’re ready to get your project started, start looking into the heavy industrial contractors in your area. Make sure to check for proper licensing and fully insured companies. Please note their reputations and how they value safety as you narrow down your list to your top options. This information is found by conducting a quick Google search, asking around in the construction industry, and reviewing the company websites. Selecting a heavy industrial contractor who values safety, is known for quality work, and has experience in excavation will ensure you achieve the best results for your excavation project.
